Roman numerals.
Yep, Roman numerals give me a little thrill.
I love when books use them for chapter numbers. I love using them when writing a paper or numbering whatever I need to number. I prefer them on a watch, elevator buttons, and in movie titles. I love that no one else seems to know what they are.
It's like a secret little code except, on the rare occasion I find someone who can figure out what Superbowl it is without looking it up, I love that, too.
Except I never know what Superbowl it is because I don't follow baseball.
A few years back, I had a manager for a short time who was dealing with some personal issues. One of the few conversations I had with him he said "it is what you make of it".
Everyone, I'm sure, has heard those words or close to them at some point. What has stuck with me for so long of him saying these words is that less than a month after he said this to me he lost his job and his family life.
But he prevailed.
He moved on to another job, a new location and eventually a new wife and he has done quite well for himself.
It is what you make of it.
The Great Ferris Bueller said "Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it."
With those two philosophies (and many others) in mind, I decided to embark upon a list of things that make me smile. Why?
I truly feel that as of this moment I am on the brink of a nervous breakdown. Things are not going even remotely to plan and I am a flexible person. The current set of circumstances have me feeling pretty out of control and in a hate-hate relationship with life.
I need positive, joy and fun. This list of things fits that bill.
